Colder; Snow Showers
The fast moving disturbance that brought us snow showers and flurries for the morning will take off over the Atlantic this afternoon. In it's wake, any leftover snow showers that we have at noon will come to an end, and even the most stubborn clouds should be diminishing by day's end as drier air pushes in. Temperatures today will not rise much from morning levels; it will be very cold tonight. Winds will be blustery through tonight. Friday will be dry and milder after a cold start. Rain returns Saturday changing to snow showers or flurries Saturday night. Next week will be very cold with a couple opportunities for snow (see below).

Forecast Discussion
The clipper-like disturbance that brought snow showers to the region (1-2" in Boone, 3-4"+ up top), is moving away. Any leftover snow showers at lunch time will quickly diminish to flurries, and then end, giving way for more sun as the afternoon progresses. Clouds will decrease further tonight, but it will remain cold and blustery.
The flow aloft quickly becomes zonal tomorrow; so, after a cold start, temperatures will moderate significantly Friday afternoon. Skies will be most clear Friday, but clouds will increase late Friday night.
A cold front will move through Saturday evening. Ahead of that front we can expect rain showers during the day Saturday. There a slight chance that this could begin as a wintry mix, but even if it happens, that mix will be too brief to be important. Liquid is the main form of precip during the day Saturday. Behind the front, temperatures will fall, and snow showers/flurries will develop Saturday night. Mountaintops could pick up another 1" Saturday night, but a dusting is about all the rest of us will see.
Sunday will be cold; Monday looks chilly and dry during the day.
A clipper-type system will move across the Appalachians Tuesday. This will produce snow showers Monday night through Tuesday with light to moderate accumulations of snow. Temperatures Tuesday will fall through the day to bitterly cold levels by Tuesday night. Cold with flurries is expected to continue into Wednesday.
The rest of next week will continue the cold theme. We have another chance of snow Friday of next week.
